FAQ
Q. Does it work on Linux?
No. This app is Windows-only. It does not work on Linux (including Proton).
This is due to a limitation of the API used to obtain the VR View.
Q. Can I use this app while playing a specific game? Can I use it without SteamVR?
VRHandsFrame uses the SteamVR overlay feature. Therefore, it can be used simultaneously with any game running on SteamVR.
Since it depends on SteamVR features, it does not work with OpenXR-only runtimes or PCVR-less standalone devices.
Q. Can I change the resolution of captured images?
You can change the Resolution Source and Aspect Ratio Adjustment from System Preferences.
Since the VR view is captured directly, the image quality depends on the SteamVR settings or the HMD specifications.
Q. Frame creation is difficult / Gestures are not recognized
To prevent interference with VR games you are playing simultaneously and to avoid accidental operations, you need to perform reasonably accurate hand gestures.
See Getting Started for details.
If detection is unstable, adjust the gesture detection sensitivity with the following settings.
- General > Hand Gesture Detection Sensitivity
- System > Trigger Input Threshold
- System > Grip Input Threshold
Also, to finalize the frame area, you must press the trigger button on the hand showing the check mark ✅ while continuing to hold the grip buttons on both controllers.
See Determine the Crop Area for details.
Q. Is there a trial version? What is the difference from the paid app?
We do not offer a trial version on the Steam Store.
The older version is published on a separate site (Booth).
You can experience the basic capture functionality and 2D code scanning with hand gestures, but there are several differences from the app sold on Steam:
- You cannot grip the panel with one hand.
- Only one panel can be displayed at a time.
- No bookmark function or photo sharing function.
- Setting changes are required to use the translation function.
- The UI is less refined.
- It cannot be launched from the Steam client.
- The older version's support and development ended in 2024.
